At Muskan Sansthan, we strive to change lives, uplift women, and empower them to take control of their destinies. One such story of hope and transformation is that of Lila Katara, a courageous woman who overcame immense adversity to become self-reliant and independent.
Lila was once living a happy life in Dungarpur with her husband and four children. Their household was filled with love and laughter until tragedy struck. Her husband passed away unexpectedly, leaving Lila and her children vulnerable. What was once a stable and joyful life quickly became a nightmare.
Blamed by her in-laws for her husband’s death, they accused her of being a “witch” and subjected her to relentless abuse—both physical and emotional. Starving and battered, Lila endured unimaginable suffering. Her in-laws refused to provide food for her and her children, and they were left in dire conditions. Despite the abuse, Lila had no place to go and felt trapped. One day, she was violently thrown out of the house along with her children, with nowhere to turn.
In the district of Dungarpur, there is a saying: “One who has no one, has Muskan Sansthan.” With nowhere else to go, someone told Lila about Muskan Sansthan’s Women’s Home, and she sought refuge with us.
When Lila and her children arrived, they were in desperate need of care. Lila hadn’t eaten in five days, and her children were severely malnourished. Our team provided them with food immediately, and Lila devoured it as though she hadn’t seen a meal in weeks. We then gave her and her children clean clothes and a safe space to recover. But more importantly, we offered her hope.
For many days, Lila cried, overwhelmed by the trauma she had endured and fearful for her future. She wouldn’t speak, consumed by the worry of how she would care for her children. Our team patiently counseled her, reassuring her that Muskan Sansthan would stand by her and her children every step of the way.
The first priority was to get her children back on track. We enrolled them in school and ensured they began their education, while Lila slowly started to heal. As she gained her strength back, Lila showed an interest in stitching, and we helped her enroll in our tailoring course.
Lila poured her heart into learning the skill. Her dedication and determination were clear from the start, and she completed the course with flying colors. When the time came, Lila approached us with a desire to open her own tailoring shop. Believing in her vision and her potential, we helped her set up her store.
Today, Lila runs her own successful tailoring business, providing for her children and living a life of dignity and pride. No longer dependent on anyone, she has become an example of strength and resilience.
Lila’s story is a testament to the power of support and empowerment. At Muskan Sansthan, we don’t just provide shelter; we offer the tools and encouragement for women like Lila to rebuild their lives and thrive.
Her journey from a place of despair to self-sufficiency is what drives us every day. Muskan Sansthan is proud to have been part of Lila’s journey, transforming her into an independent woman who now lives life on her own terms.
